This week we are going to discover one by one the 5 different types of grapes that we have planted on the 5,5 hectares of the Masos vineyard under the leadership and coordination of the enologist Antoine Medéville, founder and director of the bordelés Oenoconseil laboratory.
Petit Verdot is a variety from south-west of France, the region of Burdeos. This fruit is a late maturation, it is a black grape with small grain and a very complicated production that’s why is not well known. For this reason, it needs to be cultivated on warm weather regions so it can develop, as is the Valencian Community. The red wines of Petit Verdot are an intense and sparkly red-violet colour.
Cabernet-Sauvignon this type of grape it is also originary from the region of Burdeos, this is the result of the cross between Cabernet Franch and Sauvignon blanc during the 17th century. It is one of the most used and popular grapes around the world thanks to its easy cultivation. The red wine produced has a deep blue-purple colour, generally opaque.
Syrah is a Jordanian Palestinian kind although the origin it is not hundred percent clear. The clusters of this type are medium-small with vigorous strains. It produces wines with a wide range of flavours, all depends on the weather, the ground and the viticulture practices. Syrah is a colourful wine, dark, intense, aromatic and very famous around the world.
Monastrell the origin is from the 15th Century and it’s believed that proceeds from the valencian town, Sagunto, but mostly cultivated in Murcia. The clusters are medium-big and its strains are medium-tall. This type adapts well to drought, but it can get difficult for it on high temperatures. The final result of the flavour depends on the zone, wild or wood, with a soft touch of blackberry.
Garnacha Tintorera this type of grape has the origin in Almansa. But it is the result of the cross between Petit Bouchet with Garnacha tinta and it was introduced over the year 1800 by french merchants around the zone of Alicante, cause of the phylloxera attack. The main characteristic it is the intense red colour, distinctive of a red pulp with coloring skin.
